FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I use any butane fuel or must it be Airlighter ® Fuel?

Airlighter's performance and reliability is dependent on good quality butane and the right filling nozzle. We highly recommend using Bison branded fuel because the filling nozzle and fuel has been tested to work well. Low quality butane can create difficulty filling, possibly clog the internal jets and create a weak performing flame. The Airlighter will still work with other butane brands but we cannot guarantee the performance, reliability, or ease-of-filling of your Airlighter.

Does the Airlighter ® come with Airlighter Fuel?

Bison Airlighter Fuel or other butane needs to be purchased separately.

Where can I buy Airlighter ® Fuel?

You can get Airlighter Fuel at a local authorized retailer.  Alternatively, you can buy Airlighter Fuel here on our website. You might also find other butane brands at your local hardware store or super-market.

How many fires can I light when fully recharged?

In total, with a full tank of fuel and full batteries, you can expect about 15-30 fire lightings. If you like to go all the way from cold-to-cooking as fast as possible then you can expect about 10 fire lightings before needing to recharge.

To break it down, you will get about 7-10 minutes of burn time per tank (the flame is adjustable up or down so the burn time varies).  A typical charcoal BBQ requires about 15-20 seconds of burn time before switching to fan mode.

In fan mode, you will get 30-35 minutes of strong fan time with the Airlighter 520 and about 45 minutes with the Airlighter® 420.  A typical charcoal BBQ requires about 1 minute of fan time to be fully lit or about 5 minutes before you are ready to cook.

I lost my charger (for the Airlighter ® 520). How can I get a new one?

The charger for the Airlighter® 520 is a standard male-to-male USB cable.  You do not need a Bison made cable but we do have replacement charging cables for sale on our site.

How should I store an Airlighter ®?

Airlighters are designed to perform best at room temperature.  We recommend leaving your Airlighter® indoors and taking it out when you need it.

NEVER store an Airlighter® in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 120°F (49°C).

ALWAYS make sure the Airlighter® is turned off before storing.  To ensure the flame is fully extinguished, run the fan for about 3 seconds before storing.

Is it safe to use?

Absolutely. We have taken great care to ensure the Airlighter® is safe to use.  It is CPSC compliant to avoid accidental lightings and the materials and make-up of the product are designed to ensure safety.  However, it is not suitable for use by children and should always be used with care.

Can it be used for lighting cigarettes or cigars?

Airlighter® can light almost anything but it is not designed for lighting tobacco.  The Airlighter® shoots a strong flame and should never be pointed at yourself or others for any reason.

Does it work at high-alititudes?

Like all butane products, Airlighter's flame performance is impacted by high-altitudes. They will work, but they might be harder to light. The blower will work just as well. It is really important that you are using high quality butane for best results.

Is there a warranty?

The Airlighter® comes with an automatic 1-year warranty. If you register on our product registration page then we will upgrade your product to a 2-year warranty for free.

How long does it take to charge the batteries (Airlighter 520)?

A typical re-charge from dead to fully charged is about 4-6 hours.  The first charging may take longer so we recommend charging it overnight.

Can the batteries be replaced?

The Airlighter® 420 uses replaceable batteries. However, the Airlighter® 520 has a built-in battery that can't be replaced.  It is designed to last for many years.

Can I take the Airlighter ® on an airplane?

Airlines have become very strict about allowing lighters on planes, with or without fuel inside.  Although there is no flint in an Airlighter, usually security will not want to take the risk.  To be safe, our advice is to send it by ground mail ahead of your journey.
